Is it too late for me? (Rising College Junior)

Honestly, I just need some brutally honest advice, no sugarcoating.

I'm sure many people have been in a similar position as me, but I'm currently at a non-target (for IB) school going into Junior year this fall. I'm sitting at a 3.85 GPA and have a summer internship this summer for a F200 company (accounting related role). I'm double majoring in Accounting & Business Intelligence and Analytics.

I've heard so much about the "safety" and "job security" about being in accounting, which is what first drove me to do these majors. But I now realize how underwhelming the salaries are... I want to move to California someday and be by the beach but with my degrees I just don't think I can pay for the life I want. I knew about IB but for some reason the risk of it scared me (coming from growing up poor I just wanted something secure). I now want to break into private credit or private equity, and pay for the life I want. I'm considering changing my Business Intelligence and Analytics major to Finance to pair with Accounting but I really need to draw up a plan for my future in private credit. Is it too late for me as a rising junior to successfully enter into a role that can pivot me into that out of college? Any advice at all would help.

Major doesnt matter all that much whether it’s finance vs other business major. Major in what can get you the highest GPA for the least effort and what you enjoy. Just delay graduation 1 semester (add a minor or change your major and say you needed the extra semester to get sufficient credits) and recruit for summer 2028 internships this cycle as if you are a rising sophomore (class of 2029). Recruit for IB and private credit and LMM PE. Start networking in Sept/Oct and run hard at the networking until interviews kick off between December - March for most banks and PE/PC funds.

Many banks open this summer and fall for IB so be on the lookout and keep networking

there's gonna be lots of spots opening up in junior year. there's grind on technicals, behav, and networking now and rising junior is not too late. dont be scared of making a career decision at 19/20.
