Is MBA Worth It for Opportunistic PE VP?
Currently a VP in a MM opportunistic fund within renewables/sustainability. I am thinking of getting an MBA to lateral to a larger fund within private investing (open to PE, growth equity or opportunistic), build a stronger network and take a break. The WSO consensus seems to be that it's tough to do post-MBA PE recruiting without UMM/MF experience. Do you think doing a MBA is worth it for me (or even an EMBA since I'm not switching field)? I don't have a name brand IB or PE and generally feel that I will be risking not getting back into private investing given how competitive it is even at H/S/W which I don't feel like I have a great shot at and will mostly likely end up at a M7. Any color/thoughts here will be helpful.
You could probably move up market in infra if you are open to that. Lots of dollars in the space and they take a lot of corporate PE people cause lack of people with experience.
