Is Partner Comp Similar in MM and MF firms?

Does the fact that there are many more mouths to feed at larger firms lead to the carry payouts to be similar at megafunds and middle markets? If so, are megafunds that much harder to progress in that it seems more rational to stick with the middle market for a long term career?

This is completely arbitrary, but to demonstrate what I mean, take "partner x" and "partner y", each newly promoted partners at their firms:

Middle market (partner x): $200 MM profit × (10% of carry) = $20,000,000 for partner x

Megafund (partner y): $1 B profit × (2% of carry) = $20,000,000 for partner y.

Tell me if this is completely wrong, and explain why.
