Is PE worth it?
Serious question, coming from the perspective of a third year IB analyst. This job is not what I was put on earth to do, I know that. I know how to do the job and can do it well, but I don't enjoy it and don't find it all that interesting.
Is PE really better? More interesting than banking? Feel like you're actually doing something with your life in PE?
Let me stop you there.

While you may have a better lifestyle, comp (given the recent pay raise), PE is really robust in training you in Investing 101. How to decompose returns, what the most important questions are in a deal, etc. If you have any inkling that you would like to invest, try it for 2 years if you can get a job. You will be a better professional having done the experience (more thoughtful analysis, Board experience, people around you are very sharp so you'll learn more).
It's hard to see you losing out long-term given the experience is somewhat standardized now given the market maturity. If you're willing to put in the hours, do it and don't look back.
This is the well-thought out response I was looking for. Thank you
