Lateral An1 BB > An2 UMM PE?
Currently debating whether it makes sense to lateral from a BB to an UMM PE fund for my 2nd year as an Analyst. My goal is to stay in PE but am afraid lateraling as a 2nd yr analyst might not guarantee me an Associate spot, making it tough to re-recruit for a '24 Associate role. My alternative is to wait it out at my BB out and recruit for a '24 Associate role in the coming months and drop this offer. Any advice is much appreciated, thank :) !
Do you not see the layoffs of IB these days? I would take the An2 offer and bet on yourself assuming the firm has a history of promoting internally
My group has had 0 layoffs. Not sure about layoff culture elsewhere right now
Is the UMM firm not open to you joining as an associate in ‘24?
They were looking for an An2
Take it now. IB is going to continue to be really rough so you might as well move over while you still have a job
Put yourself in their shoes - why would they commit resources to hire A2 if their intention wasn't to promote them to associate? If you perform, you will get the associate spot
Sure but how does this logic explain 2 and out programs
