Leave PE for Corp Dev?

Hi all,

I’ve been in the operations group at a MM PE firm for 3 years. Current role is senior associate. I appear to be on a progression path, though our firm has a flat structure and senior people cap out at VP, which could be possible for me in about 2 years. Job is interesting for the most part, but the culture/pressure can be rough. Other con for me is the amount of travel. Generally flexible and decent hours.

I’ve received an offer for a Corp Dev role at a very large private company with a great reputation. They are building out their CD group and have significant resources for M&A and organic growth investments. Pay all-in should be similar (to start), though a portion would be equity in the Corp Dev role. Strong where PE isn’t - culture, WL balance, development, etc. This group can use funds to acquire in a variety of industries that are diversified from the core offering. They’d use me heavily on integration but also willing to teach me buy-side. Have been told there is room for advancement both in the CD group and also at the company at large (even mentioned potential CFO path).

Trying to decide if this is a good career move or if I should stay put - both seem like great options, so focused on what’s better long term. Appreciate any input.
