Leaving SA off of Resume? (Didn't get return offer)

Hello,

I am wondering if I should leave my summer analyst stint off my resume when it comes time for PE recruiting, as I did not receive a return offer. I assume the question of why I switched firms SA -> FT will be one that will be asked by HH/Interviewers, so I see no upside in including it. Anything I'm missing here? Both IB's are MM's.

Same location, same group.. just different MM? Id still keep it and spin the story that you connected better with FT team during some networking event and decided to accept Analyst role at FT firm. I dont think they will specifically ask you if you received FT offer from your summer stint.. there is no way for them to verify it..I can assure you that. I see more harm in keeping it off your resume

Different location and industry group- so you're saying I should just say I did get a return offer?

If someone asks you directly you should be honest. So if the question is “did you get a return offer?” You should answer honestly but make sure to not just say “no” but add your story (no, but during the internship I learned I was more interested in xyz and was networking for those groups and landed at another bank).

More likely, the question will be “oh so you did a summer at X and FT and Y, why is that?” With this question, again, answer honestly but you don’t need to give all the details. It’s not “I didn’t get a return so I was looking” but more around why you like firm Y, how you found a better fit, etc.

One last thing, DO NOT lie about these things. Not worth it.
