LMM PE Analyst Comp

Hi all,

What the title says. I've been on this forum for some time and have finally received my 1st offer in high finance for a firm that has great culture, WLB, and people.

I have a verbal offer for an analyst role at a LMM southeast firm.

For context, the firm focuses on buyouts, is raising a <$450M fund, and is quite lean.

What are some expectations of comp packages / what should I negotiate for?

Probably not but you can always ask. I'm not sure what your personal financial situation is, but I'd recommend against it unless there's some sweetener like low rate levered co-invest. Assuming you're just starting in your career don't come from family money, you're signing up for concentrating a lot of your current net worth in an investment in an illiquid asset whose value is highly correlated to your continued employment - if the fund's returns suck, your job security will be low too. I'd make an emergency fund and max out my tax advantaged retirement accounts first then worry about co-invest when you're more senior/have some base level of assets that you can hold on to if things go south.
