LMM PE -> MBA -> Back to PE?
For the people who went through PE recruiting at MBA programs, what was the process like? Did everyone with pre-MBA experience who wanted to get back into PE actually do so, or were all the spots taken by those who came from UMM / MF? I'm worried that if I decide to pursue b-school, I'll have a tough time getting back into the industry.
For reference, I went from MM IB to LMM PE ($500-$750mm fund, ~$2b AUM). Based on where our mid / senior-level guys came from, and where prior associates went, probably have a decent shot at the lower M7s.
From my experience, it's pretty rare for people to move-up post MBA. The reason is quite simple, there are way fewer seats post-MBA than pre so competition is fierce and there are definitely some people who are unsuccessful in getting back to the industry.
Thanks - Would it be a big risk then to get an MBA if I'm coming from LMM PE vs. trying to stay with my firm or lateral?
I hadn't really considered an MBA until recently, but I don't want to jump into it and later find out that it's virtually impossible to get back into the industry with LMM pre-MBA experience.
