I don't want to make a super long post but hoping to glean some advice from the forum given folks here are quite knowledgeable and helpful.
Long story short, I was a typical monkey who thought he had his life together. I went to an upper ivy (HYPS) and then MBB for 3 years and then started a UMM PE stint this past summer and ended up leaving largely due to location and my lack of a friends/family nearby. I was hoping, by doing so, I would be able to focus more time on the job search but have been finding difficulties doing so.
Has anybody been in similar shoes and could advise on what I should do? I would be open to non-PE roles as role at this point.
How long were you in PE for? Did you like it?
Assuming you don't want to go back to consulting and you don't want to do PE anymore, the other tried and true paths you could go are
Business School. You've got the right amount of experience, opportunity cost is lower because you don't have a job you love, and it'll give you a few years to gain maturity and exposure to other industries you might not have previously thought about
Corp Dev/Strategy or Business Operations in industry. These are common feeders for the ex banker and ex consultants who want to maybe try their hand at actually having to operate a business.
Do you own thing, travel for a bit, try and start a company, do some of your own investing/consulting etc. See if you can make money from a side hustle.
Once you get a few years into your career you realize that the path starts to lose its linearity (unless you're staying in banking or consulting all the way through)
