Low GPA Non Target BB to PE?
I have a 3.4 GPA at a nontarget as an incoming BB IB analyst… I had great grades when I applied for IB and have since wrecked them.
Am I screwed for PE?
Likely looking for good MMPE, no interest in MF and don’t think I would be competitive for UMM
I was 3.3 nontarget and went from Corp Dev to MMPE. You'll be fine.
Genuine question: How did you position yourself as a competitive candidate compared to the candidates coming from IB? Asking bc this forum makes it sound like there's careers (PE) that you can't get to w/o an IB stint
This forum is heavily biased towards the traditional path because it is the most tried and true way to progress through the industry. I just did my research, asked good questions, and had relevant experience for the job. That's all you can really ask for.
Hey, fellow Corp dev guy. How many years of exp did you have before transitioning to PE? I've been a manager now for 1.5 years and in corp dev for 4.5 years. I am 28 and studying for GMAT to go to b school to go into banking or PE. I know I don't need a MBA to get into a bank or fund but just curious.
Less than 2 years straight out of school, though I had multiple PE internships in undergrad I could speak to.

It's way less of an issue than you might think if you're not shooting for top tier MM or MF roles. Also having an excellent rating in IB with the reviews to back it up can help if anyone questions your talent. Getting a top rating in your analyst class is much harder than a high GPA imo.
