MBB associate and ex-banker shooting for MM PE

Hi,

After MM bank, I decided to transition to MBB consulting to get hands-on experience in strategy/operations and get broader exposure to different industries.

I'm approaching 2 years at my MBB, not particularly enjoying the job as while the work is generally interesting, there's a lot of non-value work I have to do e.g. dewording slides, adjusting slide visuals, etc. what you typically find in client-facing roles.

I'm interested in transitioning to a PE associate role in the near-term where I would like to go deeper on 1-2 verticals and be more focused around aspects of banking and consulting I've enjoyed the most - working with models and more of the quant-heavy pieces of banking, and doing industry/company deep-dives in consulting.

Has anyone had a similar experience or have any advice on how I can best position myself for potential opportunities?

I'm assuming there would be questions around why I decided to pursue strategy consulting after banking vs. going straight into PE, and want to make sure I can weave a credible story as to why.
