Megafund Credit vs. Hedge Fund Credit?

I'm not that clear the differences between Megafund PE credit and Hedge fund credit roles. Is the core difference the strategy in that that MFs generally invest in private credit and HFs invest in public credit? Megafunds are better known for their buyouts and not so much credit (maybe I'm wrong).

This is a broad question -- are HFs a better place (more upside, responsibility, better rep.) to be for credit investing?
