Merchant Banking Compensation v. I-Banking Compensation (Associate)

Been interviewing for a couple of merchant banking arms (think GS, Rothschild, or Macquarie) where it is really just the PE arm of a larger investment bank. I was curious what to expect compensation wise at the associate level. Is it one for one at the A1, A2 etc, or should you expect slightly lower comp within the PE division?
