MF PE to IBD, any chance?

All,

Currently associate at a MF (one of the Brookfield, KKR, BX.... of the world) within their real estate team, I was wondering if I would have a shot when applying to BB/EB real estate teams. Looking here for inputs from former bankers regarding my profile.

A bit more on my background:

  • Associate 1 after 3 years in real estate investments (2 at an institutional shop, managed to make the move to the MF since last year), so I don't benefit from previous IBD experience. Have been involved on asset/large portfolio deals but not much corporate opportunities (except developers or REIT take private strategies but I had limited exposure).

  • Graduated from semi-target school with not much network in IBD. Only exposure to banks I currently have is pitch/IM we receive regularly from them, but our VPs and MDs are interacting with their team most of the time.

  • I have been told to apply to various MBAs but I would like to avoid it for now if possible.

Realistically, do I have any shot at top banks? if so, what should I expect during interviews given my background? (i.e should I start reviewing the 400 questions pdf, LBO modelling test, etc.)

Thanks for the help.

(1) why the hell would u do that

(2) why would you have any issue going from MF -> IBD in the same vertical

This has to be pay related. I do not see any upside to working in RE IB if you are already at a MF REPE shop.
