Don't mean to hijack the thread but what is the difference valuation team and Deal Team at a PE Firm. I didn't even know PE firms were separated like this.

Valuation team is a middle (back?) office role that works on the quarterly valuation process for existing portfolio companies (these investments are valued for the sake of LP reporting)

Not happening at all. Like your VERY best scenario is you get an MBA and recruit into PE from there and even then you're probably recruiting into smaller firms if you're lucky.
The reality is that the valuation team is viewed as back/middle office and that you won't be ever viewed as a real candidate for the investment, or deal team as you put it, unless you come from banking or another PE investment role.
