Munich / Switzerland funds

Anyone has experience recruiting from London for funds in Munich or Switzerland at lateral level (currently associate 2 in a London fund)? What funds accept non-German speakers? Relevant for both PE and growth

I'm a German native speaker and here is my opinion:

  • It will be nearly impossible for BOTH Germany and Switzerland, however, Switzerland will be even more impossible since there is a very, very, limited amount of funds with actual foot-on-the-ground presence (beside some outlieders like Partners Group) vs. Germany where you have presence of a large range of MM/LMM/LC funds in Munich/Frankfurt/Hamburg
  • Why is it impossible? First evidence: check team pages of funds and go see for yourself how many non-German speakers work at those funds. Purely andectotal I have a strong hunch it is lower than 2-3%. Second rational: of course you need it in your day to day work (interacting with portcos, etc.) but also think of it from the supply side. There are gazillion competent people from IB and MBB who speak German and who does funds can hire. What do you bring to the table that they go out of their way and hire a non-German speaker? Most of them won't even take the gamble as they have a proven/cookie-cutter template in what they hire. I see like zero upside in hiring you unless you bring something stellar to the table.
