I accepted an offer from a MM shop for a pre-MBA role and wanted to understand any immediate steps that follows.
The offer letter states summer 2020 start but doesn’t specify a start date. Should I proactively reach out to the firm regarding next steps, or just wait for any outreach from their end?

I would gently reach out and offer to follow up if they tell you to wait. Maybe even ask of there is anything you can do in the meantime to hit the ground running.
