No IB RO considering PE

Title

Felt IB was not intellectually stimulating. Learned excel and ppt very well but nothing about strategic thinking on what actually makes a company valuable.

Want to learn an investment strategy/general acumen in an industry so I can one day invest on my own or on the side (at a smaller scale). Believe this would yield similar pay, more creativity and greater freedom than being an IB/PE MD.

I think reps, mentorship, and learning are more important than anything else for me. Don’t mind if this means being at a smaller shop. I am focused on learning the fundamentals vs pay early on. Welcome other perspectives if people have other approaches. Am open to rerecuiting for IB but leaning towards taking a different route.
