On cycle with low gpa/non-target

Interested in distress / special situations at MF / HF. However, I have a low gpa (3.3,3.4) is it possible to recruit? I’m currently placed at a top Rx shop. Not interested in buyout will the Rx background give me a leg up given my bad gpa?

It's possible to recruit, and top RX group will certainly help, but you should be aiming below the top group of exits to position yourself for success in oncycle. You have to be realistic since the process moves so quickly, if you are waiting around for a 1 in 100 shot at MF/top HF you are missing out on a bunch of more realistic opportunities.

I would target Tier 2/3 distressed shops (so not MF) and small to mid-size HFs

Once you have that second job you can take GPA off your resume/put school as a one-liner on the bottom... your experience will start mattering a lot more, so can certainly move up to a larger shop if you're good.
