Overall Success Rate

I saw someone comment on here that 90% don’t make it over 500k total comp in finance. Is this true? If I were to make it to a top BB is it likely that I would get good PE associate offers? And then once I’m in PE what percent make it to partners? I’m sure there are cases where people exit out and do their own entrepreneurial thing but if I truly wanted to work up the ranks to PE partner is that easy assuming your ok with long hours and other circumstances?

It's not hard to make over 500k - that's something like a second? or third year associate in an investment bank these days. But $500k after tax is something like $300k. After your NYC expenses maybe you save $150k? Point is - it's not a lot of money *given* the amount of time you will be sinking into the job (i.e. all of it).

No it is not easy to become a PE partner - 95% will not make it either through voluntary, aptitude, bad luck, or otherwise.
