PE analyst direct from MS?

I went to a good but non target UG and am now at a top B-School for my MS. I have a lack of financial experience and will be applying to a good amount of IB analyst positions but, like most, I would prefer the buy side.

Any there any PE firms that would even be worth applying to? Or do all respected firms pretty much just rely on head hunters and target BBs?

Thanks.

It is as you suspect. There are a handful of firms that will hire inexperienced hires from school (BX, SLP, affiliates of BainCap). The majority would prefer hires with work experience and associated work pedigree. The transactional natures of the junior private roles means that some time served at an investment bank can be fairly valuable.
