PE Analyst Recruiting UK / Europe
Hi all,
I have a list of questions regarding PE recruiting in U.K. and Europe for analyst and/or internship positions.
1) How does an attractive background look like? Is having a masters a pre-requisite?
2) Headhunters are KEA, Dartmouth. Are there others? Is there anyways I can increase my visibility?
3) Do you have any recommendation for prep materials?
Thanks!
Masters is not a requirement. Depends what type of pe but for simplicity im going to reference UMM/MF. BB bank or a top EB is the minimum requirement. 90% of funds will need you to be fluent in a euro language. It definitely is possible to go as a monolingual but those seats are extremely rare due to the nature of the funds. Live deal experience is extremely important.
Thats basically everything from a background perspective that should land you interviews, and the higher you go in terms of “prestige” take the higher end of what i wrote and vice versa.
If you are at a top bank HH’s will start reaching out to you, as long as you aren't in a niche group.
Thank you for your answer!
And regarding being more visible to HHs?
I interned at 2 top 3 BBs in their top technical groups, converted them all, got some springs too, speaks 2 European languages and am learning 2 more
And although, I am still not getting contacted. My friends/acquaintances have been contacted for CVC, Cinven, Permira, EQT, BC, Carlyle, Silverlake and more…
I added HHs to my LinkedIn, sent over an updated version of my CV but nothing in the last months, did the season pass?
Also, does Blackstone truly hire from their website portal?
If you are at a top group at a top BB + speaking euro languages they should reach out. If not, I'd suggest you try and reach out again over email but only do so when you are ready to interview the next week. I assume you're an Analyst 1/2 aiming for associate roles? Since most of the funds that you mentioned don't hire analysts or interns.
Recruiting here is not as standardised as the US so it can seem random if you don't get traction - maybe you didn't have any good deals on your CV then?
I've never heard of anyone getting an interview through it - more of a formality but I could be wrong. Interviews are mainly facilitated with them through HH's through my own experience.
They don't offer Analyst programmes - There are less than 5 funds in Europe that have an Analyst programme and out of the funds you mentioned only 2 are in that group. As for the internships, It's pretty irrelevant since they wont convert you/ do require some sort of postgraduate degree for these roles.
Thank you for your answer! What funds offer analyst programs please?
Care to share the ~5 funds you mentioned with analyst programs? Blackstone, Silver Lake, Terra Firma, who else? Heard CD&R and Carlyle converted some interns into analysts but not sure
Silver lake and CD&R convert yes
You just mentioned all of them. Some other funds take on ''Analysts'' but they are usually people with 1-2 years FT experience. Carlyle does not hire out of undergrad/convert interns unless you have FT experience + a masters in most cases.
Okay thanks! And regarding Carlyle recruiting, any advice, which HHs do they use?
