PE Analyst salaries in London?

Hi guys,

I've got an offer at a small PE fund in London and I was wondering if the pay is ok or not. The fixed salary will be between 35k and 40k GBP, on which the bonus as well as a participation in the carry. I don't have previous full-time work experience, but I do have a Master degree. Do you think that matches the salary at other places? Anyone willing to share his/her analyst salary?

I did a Master degree at a target uni in the UK and did a PE internship before. This is basically my first job. It's a big difference between 80k and 40k... is this because of my missing experience in IB or rather the difference between top PE funds and small ones?

that 80k number is US, so you'd be talking 55k GBP for comp. I think the carry participation you're getting as a fresh grad is probably the reason for the salary offset, considering most funds aren't paying carry to analysts with zero experience. Did they give you an OTE estimate? Also, are you sure that the salary isn't for a stub year, which is discounted considering it's for 6 months vs. 12?

This is below average (it's below your average first year IB analyst salary). carry as an analyst with no exp seems unusual - so it seems there may be significant upside? You might want to try and put a number on what your variable pay may be and look at overall compensation.

Thanks for your answers everyone! I was also wondering myself how much the carry would pay off. The fund is quite young and small, and after all I can't imagine the analyst to get a large capital share.

Small headcount = fewer mouths to feed, so you could potentially get a larger slice than you'd anticipate, albeit of a much smaller pie. Have you asked for a breakdown of the compensation package?
