PE Analyst to PE Associate recruiting

I was wondering what the process is like going from a MM PE firm out of undergrad and recruiting for a UMM or MF for associate.

Do I need to reach out to headhunters or do I wait until I get associate at my firm then lateral?

Specifically trying to learn more about Vista, GTCR, Linden, Insight, Silverlake, Thoma Bravo.

How easy is this transition? My position as a PE analyst is all investment oriented (all diligence with ~10-12 deals a year), no sourcing.

think you’d reach out to HHs yourself if they aren’t already reaching out to you. Helpful to have friends in banking that are very well covered by HH’s at like EVR/GS/etc. to let you know when/who to reach out to and when to get aggressive (cuz the HHs are pursuing them aggressively).

Also helpful to fill out the pre-registrations and surveys on their site before hand so it’s pretty painless for them to take your call
