PE Asso Comp step ups

Might be a dumb question, but what does the annual increase in associate comp look like? For reference, signed an offer at NYC buyout fund with >$20 bn AUM and am wondering what to expect the jumps to be after first yr associate

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you can expect for Private Equity Associate compensation step-ups:

  1. 1st Year Associate: The average total compensation for a 1st-year associate is around $229k.
  2. 2nd Year Associate: This typically increases to an average total compensation of $267k.
  3. 3rd+ Year Associate: The average total compensation for a 3rd+ year associate is approximately $277k.

The step-ups between years are generally driven by base salary increases and potentially higher bonuses as you gain more experience and contribute more value to the fund. However, the exact progression can vary depending on the fund's performance, your individual performance, and the specific compensation structure of your firm.
