I have not seen IR folks moving to deals but other way around. It's more common to see some burnt out deal guy transitioning into IRs. Typically, IRs change shops… IRs that start at MF build relationship w top tier LPs later leverage the network to go other inaugural funds or relatively new funds as a partner or MD with significant carry or % of capital they raise…I think many people overlook the importance of IR… but as you go up even all the deal guys need to pick up their IR hats to pitch the funds… so the more senior you are, everything becomes IR marketingThe caliber of IRs may differ from funds to fund but if you are talented IR (i define them as folks with full knowledge of each portfolios w details on financials and deal sourcings, fund history, etc) they make their way and naturally assume many different roles.. not common in MFs where they are more siloed but seen some folks doing operational improvements on their Portco and eventually dual playing operator as well as IR.
