PE Junior Summer? As an undergraduate at a target school?

How plausible is it? Rising sophomore going to a top target school with relatively technical background and want to go straight to PE as junior SA. Which firms still offer that (I know many have closed their programs b/c of AI) and how do I prep for this? How networking heavy is it compared to IB? What is the optionality/exits looking like? Is it worth it over recruiting for IB which has much more resources for junior recruiting at least at my school (so many people have done it at my school so it is easy to get advice, etc)? Thanks for the help!!
