PE Mid-Level Recruiting Process (VP / Principal)

How many candidates are included in a mid-level recruiting process? At my firm, after screening 25-50 resumes, we brought in 10 candidates for a first round interview, which begins with a Partner / MD given the seniority of the position. I'm curious what other folks have seen.

This is misinformed. Let's use one example because I don't feel like finding more examples for you. Go to Arsenal Capital's team page. More than half of the VPs / principals joined as a VP or principal. Now that is probably a more extreme example but your comment is simply inaccurate. PE firms recruit at the mid-level for two main reasons: 1) scaling (ie raising larger funds) can require additional headcount to execute deals, and 2) turnover. So contrary to your comment, it can actually be a positive sign (ie a sign of growth).
