PE portfolio analyst career progression

I am a big 4 audit background and want to get into the PE world, but don’t want the stress/hours of the FO investment roles or the more drab life of fund accounting.

Portfolio analyst sounds like a good inbetween, it’s still interesting but without the hours of the investment roles and the boom or bust outcome.

What’s the role actually like? What’s the comp/progression? What’s the career progression?

What are the other more interesting roles in PE other than investment analyst?
