PE VPs — How many platforms have you completed?
Feels like the market is still pretty slow for a lot of funds so curious if folks feel like they’re getting a good experience from an execution standpoint.

In LMM and haven’t done a platform deal for the last 3-4 years
what do you do all day
The very question I ask myself… a lot of shots on goal and getting to final 2 buyers but always seems to go the wrong way. Luckily I have a lot of deal reps from my associate years
Same, haven't done a platform in ~2 years. Tons of portco management work to keep busy plus looking at add-ons. Add-ons can be just as much work as platforms sometimes. Plus not every deal you run at will ultimately close.
With that said, haven't had to do a ~80+ hour week sprint since last platform deal
Senior VP. I've closed on 2 platforms in 7 years. When i joined as an associate i was immediately put on 4 portco's, 2 brand new and 2 old, struggling ones. I dropped one to do a new platform, then sold that and one other before finally doing a second platform at the beginning of this year. So I'm down to 3 portco's now. Hopefully the 2 others will sell over the next 12 months and I can focus more on new platforms. On the flip-side I've probably done 15+ add-ons.
Just the luck of the draw. Thankfully it hasn't held me back in consideration for promos.
I've done 3 platforms, 10+ add-ons and a few sales / debt recaps. Haven't done a platform in two years.
1 platform per year. Lean team in LMM (~10 IPs).
LMM. Averaged 1-2 platforms a year. Closed 1 last year and will do 2-3 this year. Lean team. However we don't do many add-ons.
I don't really understand this. Are you involved at all post-close? Not sure how you can realistically manage 5+ portcos at this level.
Yes and it has been to the detriment to my WLB. 8 platforms in the last 5 years. Non-traditional fund structure so some companies are more resource intensive than others.
2 in 6 years. Hoping to get to 3 this year and 3/7 would actually be great
Ex VP here. Closed 4 platforms as a VP and 2 as an associate. Mix across the US and Europe and a mix from health to clean. Also worked with 2 portcos that I didn’t work on the acquisition.
1 in 6 years. When joining a new fund pursuing roll-ups, try not to get tangled up in a very challenging platform. We got out for a decent return, but I've had to almost rebuild my network from scratch.
just curious what do you mean "rebuild your network from scratch" - your own personal network, or the network/infrastructure of the firm?
4 platforms across 6 years in vp chair (lateraled up market)
