Performance prerequisites // MBB -> M7 -> MM

Hi friends, I'm in the middle of my MBA, preparing for PE recruiting. While the process prep is more or less clear, I'm a bit confused with what high performance actually takes.
What skills are core for a high-performing Asc? What skills do I need to focus on as an ex-consultant? I also assume I should develop skills of a VP pretty soon. Does it make sense?
Also to ex-consultants: do share you reskilling stories: what did you priorities, what you missed, how you did it etc. Would be amazing to learn about it.

A bit more context: no PE related project experience, PE Program fellow (a CBS prep program for career in PE), looking for an integrated deal+portfolio role at an MM shop, have some expertise in energy and climate finance.
