Post-MBA PERE to Traditional PE

To preface, I am 28 living in a smaller city (USA) and currently working for a start-up structured PERE firm. I am working remotely on the east coast while the firm sits on the west coast which has been tough as the time zone difference is wearing on me. On top of this my pay is pretty low compared to even my small city's PE firms. I'm working ~70 hours a week which I would be fine with if the pay justified it.

I have 2 years in FP&A supporting corp dev acquisitions at a F500 company, an MBA (top-EU), and 2 years as an associate within PERE. I own a home and not looking to move, so there are limited options in my city, but there are some traditional LMM PEs that are doing some interesting deals, as well as some regional IBs

I am interested in getting back to corporate business, but understand my background is limited due to my industry experience. If I am looking to stay in PE, but move to traditional PE in my area, does it make sense to try to go for position right away, or do 1-2 years in IB given I am more experience, post-MBA, and 28 YO?
