Post PE interview follow-up

Hey guys - recently had a megafund PE interview. They told me to reach out to them if they dont get back to me by Friday (which is what I did; interview was earlier in the week on Monday).

I followed the interviewers advice and sent a follow-up note (one-sentence email reiterating my interest) but then started to wonder, maybe, I followed-up to soon (I normally dont and wait atleast 7-8 days)?

What do you guys think? Do you think it could hurt my chances of getting called back if I followed up too soon, or diminish my chances?

I'm actually interested in this topic as well. Generally speaking, if I followed up a few days after my interview, but this time without the interviewer's official "consent", how could they view this as? Looking at this positively, can't I say that I'm showing genuine interest? This doesn't mean I'm irking them with follow up emails every day. It's just one follow up email. Or do employers generally expect the candidates to be patient and wait?

Or am I asking something too universal that really depends on the person?

if they want you, they want you. if they don't, they don't. these are all smart and detail oriented guys (like you), so they will remember who they interviewed and will be deliberating on who to bring back. one follow-up email cannot hurt you (unlikely to help you as well), and if it does hurt you, then they wouldn't have wanted you anyway.

Was it a first / final round? They usually get back to you after a first round in 24 / 48 hours. For final rounds, it can take a tad longer as they vet your references, continue to interview other candidates.

You can try following up again as it can't hurt. Silence generally means no, and although every firm is different, I've never heard of over a week between 1st and 2nd rounds. Larger PE firms tend to move extremely fast.
