Preventing more senior people from disliking you?

Hi, I’d appreciate everyone’s advice on how to prevent a more senior person from disliking you please. This person is not my manager, but he is more senior than me in our team, and likes to form little social cliques. I’m not trying to be the most popular person but want to avoid being on the bad list of this person. This person likes to pick a few favorites (generally the type of ppl who are also popular in HS/those that are known to have come from money ie private schools etc). My manager seems rational and fair, and so is the other higher up.

Not looking to pick a fight at all, but want to avoid becoming collateral damage. I already know I won’t be in that person’s in-crowd (pretty much being told so by a colleague who departed the firm when I joined , who described to me what this person looks for in his in crowd), but want to avoid being attacked.
Thank you

I agree with Rando, but sometimes you have to show your teeth and make it clear to him that you are not to be messed with.

Personally i once been in that situation before, avoiding conflict and try to keep a distance doesn't seem to cut it since he'll try to find anything that is to talk about behind your back. Try not to be antisocial/intentionally avoiding him, but try to earn his respect anyway you could. Your senior is the type of "Jock" and the "Popular Kid", so he has some influence regarding your image to others when you are not around.
