Private Capital/Fund Advisory Team Rankings

Goes without saying that Evercore leads by a country mile, but curious how the WSO community views the remaining top 10 and who makes the list/how they rank.

Off the top of my head in no particular order: PJT, Moelis, Lazard, Campbell Lutyens, Greenhill, Jefferies, Harris Williams.

I'm sure I've left some out, but if anyone can also distinguish how rankings differ across geography that would be great!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a breakdown of Private Capital/Fund Advisory team rankings:

Tier 1:

  1. Evercore - Clearly the leader in this space, with the highest volume of deals. However, some note that the quality might lag slightly behind Jefferies and Goldman Sachs.
  2. Goldman Sachs - A newer group formed by ex-Lazard professionals. Known for strong sponsor coverage and execution capabilities.
  3. Jefferies - A standout "brand name" in the business, with a focus on GP stakes but still active in LP baskets.
  4. PJT Park Hill - Highly regarded, though slightly behind Jefferies and Goldman in terms of quality.

Tier 2:

  1. Campbell Lutyens - Well-respected with strong deal flow, though a step behind the Tier 1 players.
  2. Lazard - A solid player but facing some staffing issues. They are shifting focus more toward GP-led transactions.

Tier 3:

  1. Afidity - Similar to M20 but with better quality.

Notes on Geography:

  • Rankings and deal flow can vary by region, but Evercore, Jefferies, and Goldman Sachs are generally strong across geographies.
  • Campbell Lutyens and Lazard are also recognized globally but may have regional nuances in their focus and performance.

If you’re looking for a top-tier experience, Tier 1 firms are the go-to, while Tier 2 and 3 still offer solid opportunities depending on your goals and location.
