Private Credit Base Suggestions

Have an informal chat coming up with a regional PC lender doing MM ticket sizes.

Although it's an informal chat - preparing for it like an interview, and was wondering what should I ask for base if asked? Coming from a very non-traditional background but already in an Investing/Underwriting seat at a non-sponsor fund (albeit not PC level but more early stage/venture debt)

Is £60-£65k base stretch for a regional fund (not Ldn)? Likely a first year An role if anything materialises.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, a £60-65k base for a first-year analyst role at a regional private credit fund (outside of London) is not necessarily a stretch but could be on the higher end of the spectrum. For context:

  • Junior analyst roles at L/S hedge funds or buy-side positions in London typically range from £50-60k base, with bonuses capped at around 30%.
  • Regional funds outside of London may offer slightly lower compensation due to lower cost of living and market dynamics.

Given your non-traditional background but relevant experience in investing/underwriting, aiming for the higher end of the range (£60-65k) is reasonable, especially if you can demonstrate strong value-add during the informal chat. However, be prepared to negotiate and adjust expectations based on the fund's size, structure, and regional norms.
