Private Equity 2024 Analyst Recruiting - KKR, Blackstone, Bain Capital, etc
Hi everyone,
I am currently a rising senior interested in recruiting for PE analyst positions. While I am aware BX, KKR and Bain capital have analyst programs, I have only heard that Bain Capital's recruiting starting in late June 2024 and that their interviews will comprise of PE case interviews (similar to consulting case interviews). I tried to find insights on pe analyst recruiting on this site, but since i was not able to find anything I'll try my luck and see if anyone has any answers/advice. I also will be working at a top BB this summer in a group notorious for extremely long hours. With that in mind, I had the following questions:
- How should I approach completing interviews, especially superdays while working my internship?
- How important is networking for PE, especially for MFs?
- Besides LBOs and PE cases for consulting, what type of questions should I be prepared for? Any guides/books?
- Which other top PE funds also have analyst programs?
- Anything else to look out for? Would it be bad if my team learned that I was also re-recruiting?
Would really appreciate answers to any of these questions, thank you in advance for your time :)
B
Just my take:
1. pretty important, but always make sure that you are focusing on your summer internship first and foremost. You must get a return offer.
2. depends on the firm, but would say in general networking always helps
3. Basic technicals, and each MF firm has specific stuff you should know/familiar with. For example Bain and case studies, Warburg and PE case studies, Vista and Silver Lake and several tech-industry related questions, etc.
4. Aside from what you listed (BX, KKR, Bain), other top funds with analyst programs are Warburg Pincus, Vista, Silver Lake, Ares
I was in a similar boat 2 years ago. Given that you are in a top BB group with notorious hours (likely due to facetime), I would focus on recruiting for 2-3 analyst programs (BX/KKR/Vista) based on your interests and attainability during OC. I do not know how you will be able to successfully network and carve out time during your work week without it significantly impacting your internship. Also, remember you are in a top banking group so you will still have a solid chance at landing a MF offer out of your banking stint. It may not be BX/KKR/Apollo but it is reasonable to end up at a top shop like Carlyle, TPG, Warburg, Thoma, etc, so you do not want to screw up getting a return offer. Networking is generally a plus but is ultimately dependent on the firm. Certain shops are network heavy even if they have formal processes later on (BX, KKR, Bain), while others are not as networking heavy (Apax, Vista, Warburg).
