Private Equity after Medical School: Possible or a pure Utopia?

Hello. I am an EU based second year Medical student, with a previous degree in Pharmacology. After obtaining my MD i wish to pursue a career either in PE or VC (always linked to Pharma/Biotech). I feel i would thourougly enjoy a career that calls on both of my interests: Medicine and Business.

Finance is not new to me. I read a lot, and for the past years, i have been focusing on expanding my knowledge on both public and private markets. Additionally, i am studying in my free time for the Investment Management Certificate, in an attempt to help me get into summer intership.

Can anyone shed some light on how i can best approach this career?

What can I do in the meantime (eg including summer internships)? Researching i understand that commonly one transitions to PE from IB, is this the path i should also be looking at?

I chose this path as an alternative to a PhD, as i felt (and still do) that an MD course focuses on more areas of Life Sciences and is less specialised. Moreover, I felt i would have greater career choice as an MD vs PhD.

Basically, is this doable? Or should i consider leaving medical school?

Thanks in advance for any replies and suggestions.

ps. Just ask if you want additional information!

I think you'll make a killing, mostly in venture. I'd get both and work your way into VC funds in your niche. You'll kill it with a mix of pharma, MD and VC.
