Programming for PE?

I know...I know...it sounds stupid. Probably even is.

After all, private equity is known for their preference towards soft skills over Ph.D. level Math abilities. That being said, what do you guys think would be the most applicable programming language if the PE industry would require one and why?

M_1 When you recruit if you are looking for a non pure Quant role, what level of python / programming usage do you look for and how do you test / quantify that ability?

Could you elaborate a little more on "quickly diligence certain things, aid port co's with hires, etc..."

It seems those are examples of two different situations in which programming skills could prove useful:

1) "Quickly diligence certain things" to the extent that research and diligence could be facilitated by web scraping / interacting with APIs

2) "Aid portco's with hires" in the sense that you would be better qualified to judge candidates for a technical role
