Raising Capital for a start-up

So I am working for a start-up that has raised a bit of capital. The company is in a bit of an awkward spot, because they have raised some angel investor money and the founder has put in money, but a lot of VCs aren't ready for the company. Many VCs want to see certain revenue targets that the start-up company doesn't have. the company is past the seed stage, but not ready for Series A yet.

What other avenues would be good to try and raise captial for the company? The company has tried pitching to a few local angel groups (they got a deal but unfavorable terms) and have raised some funds through contacts.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for raising capital? I know there are certain sites, but a lot of them seem to want fees and from asking some of the people on the sites, they gave it poor reviews. What other areas should I approach to help raise capital for a start-up in this situation? (The company is based in Canada btw)
