Real Estate Brokerage to RE Private Equity Firm?

Is it possible for real estate brokerage to become re private equity firm? I mean, real estate brokerage analyzes deals and connects sponsors to other equity investors or banks to fill capital requirement. If real estate brokerage happens to get funds from maybe like pension funds or something like that, can it be re private equity firm? Just curious.

There should be some threads with more information on this but yes, it can be done. Commercial real estate really isn’t that vanilla compared to corporate PE......yet. While a lot of kids do repe from ibd stints in gaming and lodging groups, there are still a handful that come from investment sales or debt at the property level. Especially with 1.5 - 2 years worth of mileage as an analyst at a well known brokerage outfit (I.e. eastdil, JLL, cushman, HWE, etc....). However, I would try to make the transition before jumping into production (associate). Some people will view that as solidifying yourself in brokerage aka carving initials in wet cement. But even if you do that, it’s still not impossible to pivot, it’s just a tad less traditional and screws with timing. Either way, you’ll have some options, and you can definitely parlay brokerage assuming there aren’t any hurdles with modeling, analytics, or case studies.

Also, probably goes without saying, but any credit fund after a stint in brokerage would be viable too.
