Real Estate Private Equity/Development to Macro Fund?

Hello all - curious if anyone has made this transition or works/knows anyone who has. I've been in real estate since graduation but have found my natural interest drifting more toward macro events and investment bets. I obviously have limited knowledge compared to those from more traditional HF backgrounds but I'm wondering how difficult this transition would be and what steps would I need to take to stand out?
