Recruiter Dynamics

Quick question for people here. I'm in the process for a mid-level PE position through a networking connection I have. I recently got an email from a recruiter about the same position (they didn't mention the name of the firm but I can tell by the description) and I'd like to talk to the recruiter since they've placed people here before and would have a good sense of salary range / expectations. Is there any issue if I chat with the recruiter on their views on the position / salary but not get placed through them? If they find out I got the position and I had previously talked with them, they may be upset and think that I went around them after learning of the position. Thanks in advance!
