Recruiter unresponsive after responding to opportunity outreach?

First year analyst going through off-cycle. Been getting off cycle opportunity emails recently and one caught my attention. Responded a day or two after I received the initial notification of the opportunity but have not heard back yet.

Probably reading too much into it, and recruiters are still getting their own side nad next steps figure out, but is it in any way a bad sign that they have not been so responsive? Could it be that they blasted this on a wide basis initially to get the word of opportunity out, saw my response, reviewed my resume, and did not choose to respond? Sounds like a weird way to do things bc 1) silly to send out opportunities when resume expectations don't match up 2) sets relationship between myself and recruiter off on the wrong foot.

just curious if others have experienced this and if its common practice.

Recruiters don’t care about relationships with candidates, so you will learn ghosting is part of their habitual process. They will respond quickly when you’re the right fit for their client.

As for your direct question, yes this is common. If it’s been more than a week after you responded with your resume, then try following up one more time. If still no response, you either weren’t a fit or the process has slowed down. Also, it’s very close to the holidays so doubt any movement will happen

Recruiters maintain all of their information in a  database and blast opportunities out based on filters (YOE, City, Industry, etc). If you match, you'll get hit with inbounds just based on that. The recruiter did not get the mandate and think to themselves "Analyst 1 in IB - Gen would be perfect for this, let me reach out personally".
