repe to corp

just starting in repe now, fund has a pretty broad mandate (including take privates and buildups of opcos in hospitality etc.) so ive gotten a good balance of exposure to asset level and company level deal work

if i want to lateral to a more traditional corp buyout position, do options exist? any particular firms in mind? would i be more likely to find work in an asset/plant-heavy vertical?

It's not going to be easy to move from REPE to "vanilla" PE. That said, you've got plenty of other options. REPE to REIB, HF (RE / debt focused), Equity Research (RE coverage), RE development or larger REPE are all possible...

Also, I have heard of a few people going from REPE to financial instituions focused PE... I guess it makes some sense intuitively because banks and other financial inst. have a ton of exposure to RE debt, which you learn a lot about analyzing/valuing in REPE (if you're doing distressed, etc...)... I don't know how much stock I'd put in this though, because my understanding of Financial Inst. PE is that its all FIG group Ibankers who know how to do specialized FI related modeling, etc.
