Resume Deals for LP/Co-Invest Experience

Currently at a pension fund where we rarely do direct deals (primarily fund investments and sometimes co-invest)

Was wondering how I would showcase these deals on my resume considering the deals get publicly announced by the GP (target and purchase price). Should I just use the headline numbers I see online or our specific commitment (which I’d imagine is more confidential)? Are we even allowed to be specific on our resume given LPs/co-investors are typically not disclosed in the deal announcement

ie. GP’s $Xmm Acquisition of TargetCo

When showcasing LP or co-investment experience on your resume, it's crucial to balance providing meaningful details with maintaining confidentiality. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s how you can approach it:

  1. Avoid Confidential Information: Do not disclose your specific commitment amount or any details that are not publicly available. LPs and co-investors are typically not disclosed in deal announcements, so it’s best to avoid specifics that could breach confidentiality.

  2. Use Publicly Available Information: You can reference headline numbers and details that are publicly announced by the GP. For example, you could write something like:
"Supported co-investment in GP’s $Xmm acquisition of TargetCo, a leading [industry/sector] company, by conducting due diligence and evaluating investment merits."

  3. Highlight Your Role: Focus on your contributions to the deal process. Use active language to describe your involvement, such as:

    • Conducted due diligence on co-investment opportunities, including financial analysis and market research.
    • Evaluated investment proposals and collaborated with the GP to assess strategic fit.
    • Prepared materials for internal investment committee approval.
  4. Generalize Where Necessary: If confidentiality is a concern, you can generalize the details while still showcasing your experience. For example:
"Participated in the evaluation and execution of multiple co-investment opportunities across [industry/sector], contributing to deals valued at over $Xbn in aggregate."

  5. Focus on Skills and Impact: Emphasize the skills you utilized and the impact of your work rather than the specifics of the deal. For instance:

    • Developed financial models to assess potential returns and risks.
    • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with investment strategy.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively showcase your LP/co-investment experience while respecting confidentiality and presenting your contributions in a professional manner.
