Reviews and PE recruitment

Do headhunters or the prospective employers check your reviews? I know headhunters will ask you how did you review go, and what were your strengths and weaknesses. I am wondering if people are actually being honest about. I realize that if you are the worst analyst in your group, claiming to be top ranked, the truth will come out quite easily. However, do people embellish the reviews?

Also, when prepping for banking interviews, one was always advised not to use weaknesses that are deal breakers, but also not to say silly things such as "i am a workaholic". What are some acceptable weakness to mention in a PE interview?

Unless you're graduating from art school, I think you mean prospective employers, not perspective. Don't lie, but know that other candidates will definitely cherry pick talking points.

Thanks. Obviously not planning to lie, and not that I would have a reason to. However it surprises me how some analysts in my class managed to get jobs. Does anyone even verify what you say?
