Rugpulled on Sr. ASO promote - how to fill a year (or two) before B school?

Out of left field rugged in my LMM seat (like "three weeks ago was told I was part of the firm's future by a partner" rugged). Last month was uneventful so working on learning the story internally but can't lose any time thinking about the future. Feedback was positive and just the standard "no seat" line was given in the rugpull conversation.

I could probably sprint through B school applications for R2 but that seems like a bad plan relative to getting some unique experience for a year or two (plus another at-bat at moving up in case I really like that next role, whatever it is)

From my networking and previous experience I'd probably like anything in finance that isn't banking or buyout post-b school. What would best set me up for both B-school applications and not erode my resume for post-B school roles? Thinking something operational might be interesting - not interested in an ASO lateral since I have already done that.
