Senior Associate — Lateral Again Within a Year?
I spent a few years as an associate at a fund in NYC before lateraling over to join a LMM fund in a T2/3 city (think Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Miami, etc.). The firm doesn’t really have a brand name but is growing quickly and I’ve already done 2 platforms and a handful of add ons in the last 8 months or so.
That said, I hate the new city I’m in and desperately want to make it back to a T1 city (ideally NYC?, but anywhere in the Northeast or west coast). Is it a bad look to boomerang so quickly? I think I have a shot at a promotion in another 6-18 months at this firm but frankly want to get out as soon as I can.
It’s fine I think you’re overthinking it.
Location matters a lot don’t tell yourself otherwise. Prioritize where you’ll be most happy I think you’d be surprised how understanding PE funds are on that.
